About the Text

The text for The Hero is derived from quotes by Socrates:

Justice is to be preferred above all else.
It’s not living that matters…
The unexamined life is not worth living, not worth living…

The unexamined life is not worth living, be as you wish to seem.
It’s not living that matters, but living rightly.
Justice is to be preferred, justice is living rightly.

Program Note

There are a great deal of fictional superheroes that we sometimes tend to idolize: Batman the self-empowered vigilante, Sherlock the genius detective, Captain America who uses a shield as a weapon, Superman the invincible icon, and the list goes on. We also have non-fictional heroes in our every-day lives. The aim of this piece is to pay tribute to one of those unsung heroes and his journey to make a difference in the world.
