Oboist and Composer

Birds was inspired by a quote by Henry Van Dyke: “The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except the very best.” The piece is meant to reflect that quote by creating a scene of a forest full of birds singing and joyfully flitting about. When the high, slow voice of the “best” bird sounds, all of the other birds fall away, creating an eerie and beautiful moment. As the bird flies away the original voices return tentatively.
This piece holds a special place in my heart as my very first composition.
