Program Note

This piece is an ultra-short sketch for Bb clarinet written at the 2017 Wyoming Composer’s Festival at the UW-NPS Research Station in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. It features a character that frequented the AMK Ranch (where the Research Station is located) throughout the summer: a pine marten, lovingly nick-named Reggie. Pine martens are generally quite shy, but Reggie’s love for Leek’s Marina pizza was much bigger than his shyness. He would sneak into kitchens and buildings, driven by the irresistible aroma of sweet sauce, spicy pepperoni, and hot cheese.
